This is a lovely retelling of the traditional Scottish folk tale of the selkie (a seal who can become human) adapted for a young audience. Beautifully written by storyteller and selkie storyteller Janis Mackay, the tale is accompanied by stunning illustrations by Ruchi Mhasane.

Janis Mackay was born and raised in Edinburgh and moved to London to study journalism. After university, she traveled throughout Israel, Turkey, and Greece before returning to the UK to work as a voice coach and storyteller. Janis has an MA in creative writing and has been writer in residence in Caithness and Sutherland. She lives in the north of Scotland, where she teaches creative writing and works as a writer and storyteller.
Ruchi Mhasane has a masters degree in children's book illustration from Cambridge School of Art. She currently lives in India, where she grew up.

VANISHED tops out at 128 pages. Maisey Yates is a great writer. She's also a gifted writer who clearly enjoys writing. It's full of basic facts and little hands on types of things that help keep some children's attention. Solid 4 stars.. We have the vision, the smarts and heart but a n excellent business plan is ESSENTIAL!! I love the Nolo series. Even so, Mitchell's world--personal, individual, reflective, informed, invested with considerations of mortality shot through with graveyard wit--remains vital and real and so accessible that it would be dangerous to let high school, much less college students get their hands on the book. Start here and save yourself a lot of headache.. The book is a spiritual approach to quitting smoking by going inward to find the reasons why you, as the smoker chooses to smoke.
