In a nutshell, The Hunt is like an inverted Immortal Rules with a Hunger Games-esque twist. Really a bit of a low-life who sought and never quite attained respectability. I swiveled my elbow in long, luxurious circles, and her body moved in rhythm. It takes a highly motivated self-starter, akin to a salesperson or entrepreneur, to succeed. Intrigue, betrayal, joy, wit, warfare – it’s all here, woven into a strong story.
Fair disclaimer: I know the author and spoke with him often while he was writing Viking Daughter. The edition with Bob Hines' illustrations are infinitely more fun to read, why did Penguin not use those? Actually, why not use both??. As a Hoosier and an artist living on the East Coast, I loved this book and the beautiful paintings from around Indiana.
