On this point it will help to remember that the author is first and foremost a priest. True, not because he was necessarily "unwaveringly committed to justice," but because he craved legitimacy and respectability. This one slim paperback has brought me more understanding of the Japanese people--particularly of those who are Christian by heritage--than a college education did, and that was all in the first few chapters.
